Serving in Aguascalientes, Mexico

How to reach us:

We are missionaries in Aguascalientes, Mexico working alongside of Jeff & Shenny Walker (Jenny’s parents). After graduating from Moody Bible Institute and getting married, we felt God calling us to serve Him in Mexico. He has opened up many doors for us to serve Him since then.

Aguascalientes has a population of one million, with the main religion being animistic Roman Catholicism (Catholicism mixed with the ancient superstitious religions of the area). The city is number one in the nation for suicide, teen pregnancies, single mothers, domestic violence, and alcohol consumption. We have three main ministries—church, Seminary, and short-term mission trips—working to bring Christ to the lost. We are working with a young church plant, having between 40-50 people attending on Sundays. To help build up the church, we have evangelistic events like movies and kids clubs and studies. To build up the believers, we offer discipleship Bible studies or try to plug people into cell groups, meet once a week to pray for each other and the different ministries of the church, and equip others how to preach and teach God’s Word to others. We are excited to see the church growing and more people getting involved in serving, teaching and preaching. We enjoy our Seminary ministry, aimed at preparing people to serve God in their churches as teachers, leaders, and pastors. Sam teaches one night course each semester and occasionally gives morning classes to several dedicated students for 1-2 mornings a week. We are excited about teaching lay people, current pastors and Lord willing future pastors and teachers how to study and teach God´s Word more effectively to others.  We also want to instill in the students a heart for reaching the world with the Gospel. We would like to take our students overseas to give them exposure to another country and mission work. We are excited to see where God leads us as we prepare others to serve Him. We enjoy hosting interns and mission trips and exposing them to what missions is and what God is doing here and how they can get involved in missions whether going themselves or enabling others to go. Thanks for your prayers!

In August we moved our church to a new location about five minutes from our previous location. We have spent the last month dividing a room into three classrooms and painting the sanctuary and rooms. We are excited about the opportunity to be a light in a new neighborhood and reach out to more people with the Gospel.

Some of our weekly church activities include kids club, cell groups and youth group. A youth group from Hampton Iowa helped us with our first VBS. We had an average of 50 kids each day with 90% of the kids not from our church. In August we started our weekly kids club but are averaging about 15 kids each Saturday. Pray that parents will send their kids to club and that they won´t be scared about us being Christians and not Catholics. Pray for more kids to come and that they will be open to the Gospel. We are thrilled that the cell group we started about a year ago is now fairly independent of us. Most of those attending take turns in leading the Bible study and are slowly inviting or bringing new people to the study. Pray that more people in the church will want to start cell groups in their own neighborhoods as well. The youth group meets on Friday nights. We now have another couple, Rodrigo and Gris, who are hosting the group every other week and learning more about how to minister to the youth. Pray that new youth will add to the group and for Rodrigo and Gris to take more leadership and teaching role in this ministry.

Sam is teaching Greek this semester to a group of pastors and lay people on Tuesday nights. They are excited to be learning Greek to better understand Scripture to be able to teach it to others. We are starting to form a group of students that would like to take classes more than once a week. Pray that more people will be interested in studying more and that their commitment to learning will persist.

Thank you for your prayers changing lives in Aguascalientes, Mexico!
